What Is a BNB Wallet?
A BNB wallet holds BNB, the native coin of BNB Chain, and pays the network fees for every transaction on it. Gem Wallet works as a BNB wallet out of the box: one BNB Chain address holds your BNB together with every BEP20 token, such as USDT, USDC, and CAKE. The private keys stay on your device and are restored from a 12-word secret phrase, the same phrase that restores your addresses on Ethereum, TRON, Solana, and every other network in the app.
BSC Wallet: Binance Smart Chain Is Now BNB Chain
BNB Chain launched in 2020 as Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and was renamed in 2022. The network, the addresses, and the BEP20 tokens stayed the same, so a “BSC wallet” and a “BNB Chain wallet” are one and the same today. Exchanges still label withdrawals as BSC, BEP20, or BNB Smart Chain: each of them sends to your BNB Chain address in Gem Wallet. Choose the same network on both sides, and keep a little BNB on the address to pay network fees.
What You Can Do With BNB in Gem Wallet
- Send and receive BNB and BEP20 tokens with one BNB Chain address, and see the exact network fee before you confirm.
- Buy BNB with a credit or debit card through the built-in on-ramp. See buy BNB.
- Swap BNB for other tokens on BNB Chain or on other networks without leaving the app.
- Stake BNB to earn staking rewards while the coins stay on your address. See BNB staking.
- Hold BEP20 tokens, including USDT BEP20 and CAKE, on the same address as your BNB.
BNB Chain Fees
Network fees on BNB Chain are paid in BNB as gas. A USDT BEP20 transfer used about 34,900 gas to an address that already holds USDT and about 52,000 gas to a new address on October 11, 2026. At the gas price of 0.05 gwei that day, this came to about $0.001-$0.002 at a BNB price of $752. Gem Wallet adds no fee of its own and shows the network fee in BNB and USD before you confirm.
BNB Chain Address Format
A BNB Chain address is a 42-character address that starts with 0x, the same format as Ethereum and other EVM networks. The same address can exist on several networks, so the network you choose decides where the funds arrive. Before you send, check that both the sender and the receiver selected BNB Chain. Sending to an exchange that only credits Ethereum deposits is the most common way BNB Chain funds get stuck.
What Is BNB?
BNB is the native coin of BNB Chain, created by Binance. It pays the gas for every transaction on the network, secures it through staking with validators, and is used across BNB Chain applications such as PancakeSwap. For more on the network itself, see what BNB Chain is.
