Gem Wallet Introduces Gas Fee Headroom: Transfers Go Through Even When Fees Rise

Starting September 15, 2026, with version 2.114.31, Gem Wallet calculates gas on EVM networks with headroom for rising fees. Our users now run into rejected transactions less often, even when the network gets more expensive in the seconds between confirmation and sending.

What Is Gas Fee Headroom in Gem Wallet?

Gas fee headroom is a 20% markup on the base fee (the mandatory gas charge that the network sets for each block) of the next block. Gem Wallet includes it in every transfer on EVM networks (blockchains built on the Ethereum Virtual Machine - the virtual machine of Ethereum, with shared addresses and tokens).

On networks that use the EIP-1559 standard (the fee calculation rule in Ethereum and compatible networks), the base fee changes with every block. If it rises above the cap you signed, the network rejects the transaction - and you have to repeat the transfer.

There is no overpayment: 20% is a cap, not an extra charge. A base fee of 10 gwei (a gwei is one billionth of an ETH) gives a cap of 12 gwei; if the block takes 10.5, you pay 10.5, and the rest is not charged.

You no longer need to keep an eye on fee spikes - Gem Wallet does it for you, and all you have to do is confirm the transfer.

Which Networks Support Gas Fee Headroom

Gas fee headroom works automatically on all EVM networks in Gem Wallet - there is nothing to turn on. Among them:

Benefits for Gem Wallet Users

Gem Wallet is a mobile self-custody EVM Wallet with 100% open-source code for iOS and Android. Here are its main benefits:

  • Full Self-Custody: Your private keys stay on your device - only you sign each transaction, and no intermediary touches your assets.
  • Fully Open-Source Code: Gem Wallet’s code is 100% open and passed a CertiK audit in April 2026 - anyone can check the gas fee headroom formula line by line.
  • Privacy by Default: No registration needed - no email, phone number, or documents, and Gem Wallet does not collect personal data.
  • Fewer Rejected Transactions: The headroom covers fee growth between confirmation and sending - for example, on Base the rate rises by ~3% at most within half a minute, and the transfer goes through on the first try.
  • Sending Your Entire Balance: The Max button on Arbitrum and Robinhood Chain got its own 5% headroom - all your ETH goes out in a single transfer, and only a minimal remainder stays on your balance.
  • Built-in DEX Aggregator: Swap tokens within EVM networks and between them through Relay, Across, Uniswap, and other top DEX providers - for example, ETH for USDC or POL for ETH.
  • Buy ETH With a Credit Card: Buy ETH with a credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay in 170+ countries - and keep a gas reserve on Ethereum, Base, and Arbitrum.
  • Simple and Clear Interface: Gas is calculated in the background - on the confirmation screen you see the final fee and do not have to deal with gwei manually.

Resources for Developers

Gem Wallet works with ERC20 tokens on all EVM networks, and the gas calculation code is open - anyone can read it line by line:

Conclusion

Gem Wallet cares about every transfer our users make and takes care of gas calculation so that the network does not reject transactions at the worst possible moment. Open Gem Wallet and send ETH and tokens on EVM networks securely and privately.
