Starting September 22, 2026, from version 2.114.43, Gem Wallet supports WalletConnect Pay on iOS and Android. Now our users can pay for purchases by QR code: scan the merchant’s invoice, choose a coin or a stablecoin, and confirm the payment.
What Is WalletConnect Pay?
WalletConnect Pay is a payment network by WalletConnect that lets merchants accept crypto and stablecoins straight from the buyer’s wallet. The merchant shows a QR code with the invoice, and the buyer scans it and pays - no card and no middleman holding the buyer’s funds.
The WalletConnect network connects more than 700 wallets, and more than $400 billion moved through it in 2025 (WalletConnect data as of January 2026). In January 2026, WalletConnect Pay launched stablecoin payments on Ingenico payment terminals.
For example, you place an order in an online store: you scan the QR code on the checkout page with QR Code Scan, Gem Wallet shows the store name and the amount, and you choose what to pay with - USDC or USDT. You don’t need to type in the address, the network, or the amount - all of it comes with the invoice.
Benefits of WalletConnect Pay in Gem Wallet
Gem Wallet is a mobile self-custody wallet with 100% open-source code for iOS and Android. Here are its main benefits:
- Full Self-Custody: Your private keys stay on your device - funds leave your address only after you confirm the payment, and neither WalletConnect nor the merchant gets access to them.
- Fully Open-Source Code: Gem Wallet’s code is 100% open and passed a CertiK audit in April 2026 - anyone can check how the wallet handles a WalletConnect Pay invoice.
- Privacy by Default: No sign-up needed - no email, no phone number, no documents, and Gem Wallet collects no personal data.
- Your Choice of Payment Asset: The merchant sends the invoice, and you decide how to pay it - for example, a $20 order can be paid in USDC or in USDT, depending on what you hold.
- Stablecoins Without Network Fees: When you pay with USDC or USDT, one signature is usually enough - the WalletConnect Pay payment gateway covers the network fee, so you don’t need to hold ETH just for one purchase.
- Invoice Check Before Signing: Gem Wallet checks the network, the address, and the payment amount against the merchant’s invoice - if anything doesn’t match, the payment never reaches the signing step.
- Built-In DEX Aggregator: Short on stablecoins for a purchase? Swap ETH, BTC, or SOL for USDT through Uniswap, Relay, Across, and other top DEX providers.
- Stablecoins Ready for Shopping: Buy crypto with a credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay and use it right away at stores that work with WalletConnect Pay.
- Simple and Clear Interface: Gem Wallet is easy to understand from the first launch - every feature is at hand for both crypto newcomers and experienced users.
How to Pay With Crypto via WalletConnect Pay
- Open Gem Wallet and tap the scanner icon on the wallet screen
- Scan the WalletConnect Pay QR code at the checkout counter or on the payment page
- Check the store name and the amount, then choose a coin or a stablecoin to pay with

To pay with a network coin, always keep a small amount on your balance for the fee - for example, ETH, SOL, or BNB.
