## What Is HYPE Staking?

HYPE is the native token of Hyperliquid, a Layer 1 blockchain. Staking on Hyperliquid is delegated Proof-of-Stake secured by the HyperBFT consensus and executed in HyperCore. Delegators delegate their HYPE to a validator, and staking rewards are paid from the network's emissions reserve.

## How HYPE Staking Rewards Work

The reward rate is dynamic: it is inversely proportional to the square root of the total HYPE staked across the network, a formula inspired by Ethereum. As of 2026, with roughly 400 million HYPE staked, that works out to about 2.3% per year, and the rate shifts as the staked total changes. Rewards accrue every minute, are distributed daily, and are automatically redelegated (compounded) to your chosen validator.

## Unstaking HYPE: Lock and Queue

Two timelines matter. After you delegate, a 1-day lock applies before you can undelegate. Moving HYPE from spot into staking is instant, but moving it from staking back to spot goes through a 7-day unstaking queue that cannot be sped up, with a maximum of 5 pending withdrawals per address. Hyperliquid currently has no automatic slashing, though a validator can be jailed by peer voting for poor performance and produces no rewards while jailed.
