KryptoKit Has Moved to Gem Wallet

KryptoKit is no longer active. Gem Wallet has acquired the kryptokit.com domain and provides a modern, open-source self-custody wallet for users looking for a reliable alternative.

What Was KryptoKit?

KryptoKit was a Toronto-based crypto company founded in 2013 by Anthony Di Iorio and Steven Dakh. The company was one of the early pioneers in making Bitcoin accessible to everyday users and developed several products:

  • KryptoKit Chrome Extension - a browser-based Bitcoin wallet with instant setup and built-in GPG encrypted messaging, launched in December 2013
  • RushWallet - an instant, cross-platform Bitcoin wallet accessible via a secret URL with no usernames or passwords
  • Jaxx - a multi-platform wallet for Bitcoin and Ethereum, launched in 2016 across Android, iOS, desktop, and browser

KryptoKit gained early backing from notable figures in the crypto space, including Vitalik Buterin, Roger Ver, and Erik Voorhees. Co-founder Anthony Di Iorio later became known as a co-founder of Ethereum.

The company and its products are no longer actively maintained. The kryptokit.com domain has been acquired by Gem Wallet.

Why Gem Wallet?

Gem Wallet is not related to KryptoKit, but we share the same vision that drove their early work: self-custody, transparency, and making crypto accessible to everyone.

  • Open-source: The entire codebase is public on GitHub. Don’t trust, verify.
  • Multi-chain support: Manage Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, USDT, and 100+ other blockchains from a single app.
  • Native swaps: Exchange assets directly within the wallet with no intermediaries.
  • Self-custody: Your keys, your crypto. Gem Wallet never has access to your funds or private keys.
  • Mobile-first: Available on iOS and Android, designed for modern crypto usage.

How to Migrate from a KryptoKit Product

Your cryptocurrency is not stored inside a wallet app. It lives on the blockchain. If you still have your recovery phrase or private key from any KryptoKit product (the Chrome extension, RushWallet, or Jaxx), your funds are accessible.

  1. Download Gem Wallet (iOS / Android)
  2. Select “Import Wallet” on the start screen
  3. Enter your recovery phrase or private key
  4. Gem Wallet will scan the blockchains and display your balances
  5. You now have full access to manage your assets with a modern, actively maintained wallet

Note: Gem Wallet is a separate, independent project. We provide the software to interact with your funds on the blockchain using your existing keys.
